63 year young man with 3 weeks history of right posterior thigh pain. The pain is achy and is worse with sitting on a hard surface. It was not a shooting pain.
He had a tenderness over his right hamstring on examination.
Diagnosis: hamstring muscle pain
Treatment: trigger point injection eased his pain.
13 year young athletic girl playing tennis 3 days a week developed a local and focal pain over the medial lower right leg. It is over the medial edge of the right shin bone. The pain is worse with direct pressure. Otherwise, it is not painful. The pain has been stable over several months.
Diagnosis: shin splint
Treatment: local heating pad. Anti-inflammatory pain medication, foot arch support.
80 year young man 3 months of left lateral lower calf pain worse with standing and walking. There was no shooting pain.
He had left soles muscle pain and tenderness on examination. Negative straight leg test.
Diagnosis: soles muscle strain and pain
Treatment: Trigger point injection at the soles muscle relieved his pain.
