69 year young lady back fusion surgery 2 years ago. She has been in severe pain ever since. She can not stand straight and she can not walk far without pain. She uses a wheeled walker all the time. She saw her spine surgeon post surgery and no more surgical indication.
Diagnosis: Failed back syndrome; Lumbar post-laminectomy syndrome.
Treatment: pending spinal cord stimulator
63 year young man severe back and leg pain when he stands or walks for more than 5 minutes. The pain is unbearable that he had to sit down.
He had back surgery before without help. He is on high dose narcotics with only partial pain relief.
MRI showed evidence for lumbar stenosis at L4/5, L5/S1 levels.
Diagnosis: Lumbar postlaminectomy syndrome- lumbar failed back syndrome. Lumbar stenosis
He declined spine surgery consult as he does not want to go through surgery again.
80 year young lady had two back surgeries. She has local lower back pain with both leg pain. She is physical infirm and can not stand or walk without assistance.
Diagnosis: failed back syndrome
Management: she has no inclination to proceed to surgery. Bilateral sacral epidural injection were done to relieve her pain.
